Your First Visit

The first visit is the same as it would be to any medical or therapy office; there’s a lot of paperwork up front. Don’t forget to bring your current insurance card(s) and your prescription. Please show up about 10-15 minutes early on the first visit so we can complete the paperwork and verify insurance coverage.

There’s no set evaluation for every patient but we usually start with getting a past medical and surgical history. Your physician will usually have indicated what the chief complaint or problem is; special physical and neurological tests are performed to determine what we’re working with. Your physician or therapist may have already pulled, poked and prodded the same part, but we’ll need to repeat these so we fully understand what changes you’re going through. It gives us a better feel for what you can and cannot do and tells us better how we can help you. I don’t expect your physician, nurse or therapist to know every detail of every brace and artificial limb available. It’s our job to stay current on the newest technologies and the many combinations of parts for each device.

We try to stock a broad selection of off-the-shelf devices to fit clients as soon as possible. Anything custom-made will take time to fabricate. If your are being seen for a custom-made device, some procedure is used to capture your anatomical shape from which we create a model, or form. This is then used to make the insole, brace or artificial limb. The time required for this varies with the complexity of the device and the availability of components.

Except for some shoes and prefabricated insoles, most of our products require some time to order or fabricate, or both.
